Jahrhundert und besingt die Pont Saint-Bénézet, auch bekannt als Pont d’Avignon. Diese Brücke steht in der Stadt Avignon, in Südfrankreich. Die ursprüngliche und leicht abweichende Version des heute bekannten Liedes stammt wahrscheinlich von dem Komponisten Pierre Certon. Er veröffentlichte es im 16. Jahrhundert unter dem Titel „Sous le Pont d’Avignon“. Die heute gebräuchliche Fassung des Liedes stammt von Adolphe Adam und wurde für eine Oper im 19. Jahrhundert genutzt. Seitdem trägt das Lied den heute bekannten Titel.
